This magnificent artefact from ancient Egypt, dating back to the 26th Dynasty (664-525 BC), is an absolute stunner. The top part of the coffin lid is exquisitely crafted and remarkably well-preserved. The wide face gradually tapers downwards, with plump cheeks slightly protruding from the neck, giving the impression of a double chin. The eyes and eyebrows are finely outlined, while the eyelids, makeup lines, and pupils are depicted in black, and the eye background in white. The unique three-part wig showcases a green staircase pattern on a yellow base, a design that has no known parallels. The chest collar is adorned on each side with stunning falcon-headed sun discs, facing outwards. Below, the sky goddess Nut extends her arms with wide wings to protect the deceased. She also wears a large sun disc on her head. The exposed chest of the goddess bears two concentric lines around the nipple, which may possibly be a tattoo. On the sides, there are two Horus sons, stacked on top of each other, with their names written in hieroglyphs, and a kneeling goddess with a Shenu ring encircling her name. The design of the coffin lid, as well as the facial features, can be found in other coffins from the 26th Dynasty. This artefact is truly a rare gem.
