Below each other, next to a blue line, there is a so-called "t-bread" and two swallows, which can be read as "wr." According to the inventory entry, the fragment comes from Tomb TT No. 63, the tomb of Sobek-hotep. The design and coloring are closely comparable to this burial place of the high official under Pharaoh Thutmose IV.

  3. Bauchiges Gefäß mit Spiraldekor:

    • Description: This vessel has a light-colored rounded belly decorated with pairs of zigzag-shaped wave lines and large and small spirals. The flat, wide lip protrudes outward and is adorned with zigzag-shaped wave lines. The vessel is painted with a spiral on the outer side of the bottom. It has two wide barrel handles attached to the shoulders. It is made of marl clay or desert clay, which is characterized by its high calcium oxide content and differs from the clays deposited by the Nile. Therefore, such vessels have a yellowish to light greenish color, while the interior of the vessel may have a reddish hue. The vessel has been in the Karlsruhe collection since 1884. The Naqada culture, named after the Egyptian city of Naqada, is a Copper Age culture from the Predynastic period of Egypt. It emerged in the mid-5th millennium BCE in Upper Egypt and spread to Lower Egypt by the end of the 4th millennium BCE. The Naqada culture marks the continuous social and technological changes just before the establishment of the Old Kingdom around 3000 BCE.

    • Description: This cosmetic palette features two bird heads at the top. The two birds are differently sized and facing each other. Below the birds, there is a piercing. Both men and women used cosmetics in ancient Egypt, including for medical purposes. Such an elaborately designed cosmetic palette was probably not used in everyday life, but it is believed to be a burial offering.
